INSTALLATION GUIDE 

12 mm PET Felt Acoustic Wall Panels

This installation guide provides general recommendations for the handling, preparation, cutting and installation of 12 mm PET felt acoustic wall panels. Correct preparation and installation are important to achieve a clean, secure and professional finished appearance.

Installation conditions can vary depending on the wall substrate, panel configuration and project requirements. The installer should confirm the suitability of the substrate, adhesive and installation method before commencing work.

1. BEFORE INSTALLATION

Before installation, inspect all PET felt panels for colour, dimensions, surface condition and any visible transportation damage.

Panels should be installed only after major wet construction works have been completed and the installation area is clean and suitable for interior finishing works.

Before starting:

  • Confirm the panel layout and orientation against the approved drawing or design.

  • Verify dimensions at site before cutting panels.

  • Ensure sufficient panels are available to complete the installation area.

  • Check panels for visible damage before installation.

  • Handle panels with clean hands or clean gloves to prevent surface marks.

  • Keep the finished face protected during handling and installation.

For installations involving multiple panels, it is recommended to lay out the panels before fixing to confirm the overall arrangement.

2. WALL / SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

PET felt panels should be installed onto a clean, dry, stable and reasonably flat interior substrate.

Before applying adhesive, make sure the installation surface is free from:

  • Dust

  • Dirt

  • Loose paint

  • Oil or grease

  • Excessive moisture

  • Construction debris

  • Unstable or flaking material

Any significant surface irregularities should be corrected before installation.

Do not rely on the PET felt panel to conceal major wall defects or compensate for an unsuitable substrate.

Always confirm substrate suitability before installation.

3. SITE MEASUREMENT & LAYOUT

Accurate setting-out is important, particularly where several panels form a continuous pattern or architectural feature.

Before fixing:

  1. Measure the installation area.

  2. Establish the required starting point.

  3. Mark horizontal and vertical reference lines.

  4. Confirm panel orientation.

  5. Check alignment with adjacent walls, ceilings, doors, glazing and other architectural elements.

  6. Dry-position panels where practical before applying adhesive.

For patterned, grooved, embossed or custom-cut panels, verify that the design continues correctly between adjoining panels.

Do not begin permanent fixing until the layout has been checked.

4. CUTTING 12 MM PET FELT

The panels can be cut on site when adjustments are required around corners, edges, electrical outlets or other building elements.

Use an appropriate sharp cutting tool suitable for PET felt.

When cutting:

  • Measure carefully before making the cut.

  • Mark cutting lines on the concealed/rear side where practical.

  • Use a straight edge or suitable cutting guide for straight cuts.

  • Make controlled cutting passes rather than forcing the blade through the material.

  • Support the panel adequately during cutting.

  • Keep blades sharp to achieve cleaner edges.

  • Protect the finished surface from scratches, crushing or contamination.

For embossed or textured products, take particular care not to compress the decorative face during cutting.

5. ADHESIVE INSTALLATION

Use an Acoustic.ae-approved adhesive or installation method appropriate for the substrate and project conditions.

Before full installation, verify compatibility between the adhesive, PET felt panel and wall substrate.

Recommended installation sequence

Step 1 — Position

Place the panel in its intended position and confirm alignment before adhesive application.

Step 2 — Apply adhesive

Apply the approved adhesive to the rear of the PET felt panel according to the adhesive manufacturer's application instructions.

The adhesive should be distributed appropriately to provide secure fixing without excessive application.

Step 3 — Place the panel

Carefully position the panel against the prepared substrate using the previously marked reference lines.

Avoid repeatedly repositioning the panel once firm adhesive contact has been established.

Step 4 — Apply gentle pressure

Apply even, controlled pressure across the panel to establish adequate contact between the adhesive, PET felt and substrate.

Do not apply excessive pressure to embossed, formed or decorative surfaces.

Step 5 — Check alignment

Immediately verify:

  • Horizontal alignment

  • Vertical alignment

  • Panel-to-panel joints

  • Pattern continuity

  • Edge alignment

Make any permitted adjustment before the adhesive begins to set.

Step 6 — Allow adhesive to cure

Allow the adhesive to cure according to the adhesive manufacturer's requirements.

Avoid disturbing, loading or aggressively cleaning newly installed panels during the curing period.

6. PANEL JOINTS & ALIGNMENT

For installations consisting of multiple panels, consistent joint alignment is essential to achieving a professional appearance.

Install each panel using the established reference lines rather than relying only on the previously installed panel.

Periodically check the overall installation with a suitable level or measuring tool.

Where panels contain grooves, patterns, printed graphics or embossed features, verify visual continuity before final fixing.

7. CORNERS, EDGES & OPENINGS

Site cutting may be required around:

  • Electrical outlets

  • Switches

  • Doors

  • Windows

  • Columns

  • Corners

  • Services and other architectural features

Always measure openings carefully before cutting.

Avoid forcing PET felt around an obstruction. A properly measured and accurately cut opening will provide a cleaner finished appearance.

Where electrical or building services are involved, installation should be coordinated with the relevant qualified contractor.

8. HANDLING EMBOSSED & DECORATIVE PANELS

For embossed PET felt products, additional care is required during transportation, cutting and installation.

Do not press heavily against the embossed face.

Excessive pressure may crush or deform the surface texture.

When handling:

  • Lift panels rather than dragging them.

  • Do not stack heavy materials on the finished face.

  • Keep sharp tools away from exposed finished surfaces.

  • Protect corners and decorative edges.

  • Handle with clean hands.

9. AFTER INSTALLATION

After completing installation:

  • Check all panels for correct alignment.

  • Inspect panel joints and edges.

  • Remove installation debris carefully.

  • Remove loose dust using a soft brush or low-suction vacuum.

  • Check the finished surface for marks.

  • Do not aggressively rub the PET felt.

  • Allow adhesive to fully cure before the installation is subjected to normal use.

Any adhesive accidentally transferred to the visible surface should be addressed immediately in accordance with the adhesive manufacturer's recommendations and only after confirming that the cleaning method is compatible with PET felt.

10. CARE AFTER INSTALLATION

PET felt requires relatively little routine maintenance.

For normal cleaning, use:

Soft-brush vacuuming or light dusting with a clean, soft cloth.

For minor marks, gently blot using a clean, lightly dampened cloth. Where necessary, a mild cleaner suitable for polyester/PET felt may be used after testing on an inconspicuous area.

Avoid:

  • Saturating the panel with water

  • Aggressive scrubbing

  • Abrasive cleaning tools

  • Strong solvents

  • Harsh chemical cleaners

  • High-pressure cleaning

  • Direct heat for drying

Allow damp areas to air dry naturally.

Handling: Protect PET felt faces, edges and embossed surfaces throughout transportation and installation

Cleaning: Soft-brush vacuuming or light dusting; spot clean gently when necessary
